About Air Source Heat Pumps
Air source heat pumps absorb heat from the outside air.
This heat can then be used to heat radiators, underfloor heating systems, air condition units, hot water in your home.
Dedicated Swimming Pool Heat Pumps are also used to provide swimming pool heating for indoor or outdoor swimming pools and dehumification for indoor pools.
The installation of an Air Source Heat Pump is a perfect renewable energy option which offers significant savings on energy bills and is suitable for domestic or commercial use; particularly when hot water is needed around the clock. Up to 80% of the energy it produces is free of charge.
So How Do Air Source Heat Pumps Work?
An air source heat pump extracts heat from the outside air in the same way that a fridge extracts heat from its inside.
It can get extract heat from the air even when the temperature is as low as -15° C. Heat pumps do require electricity to run, but the heat they extract from the ground, air, or water is constantly being renewed naturally. The efficiency of an air source heat pump is measured by what´s known as COP (Coefficient of performance)-
A higher COP equate to lower operating costs.
For example;
A heat pump operating at a COP of 3.5 provides 3.5 units of heat for each unit of energy consumed (i.e. 1 kWh consumed would provide 3.5 kWh of output heat).
