How does it work?
As the name implies, Air Source Heat Pumps extract heat from the surrounding air without the need for a complex network of underground piping.
An ASHP works using the same principle as a ground source heat pump (GSHP’s collect energy from underground.)
An Air Source Heat Pump works like a fridge, but in reverse.
The fridge takes heat from the interior and pumps it into the kitchen thus keeping the food cold. An ASHP takes heat from the air and pumps it into your pool, keeping it warm.
Air Source Heat Pumps tend to operate more efficiently at steady warmer air temperatures’. It is possible for an air source heat pump to extract heat from air at temperatures as low as minus 15°C.
One of the key advantages of an Air Source Heat Pump is that it is capable of delivering much greater energy than it consumes; thus making heat pumps more efficient and cost effective compared to other hot water generators.
It is fast becoming the most effective method of heating and cooling, overtaking traditional energy methods such as gas, electric boilers and solar heating water equipment. Other advantages in using an Air Source Heat Pump are that it can reduce CO² emissions which are considered to be the major cause of global warming
